“the LORD will teach which path to choose” (Ps 25:12, GW)
To answer God’s call, requires from you a specific choice. God says to you: “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” (Deut 30:19).
As mentioned previously in one of the daily devotionals, choice is a central concept in the gospel of the Kingdom of God. To really understand the gravity of this, we need to go back to what occurred before time even existed.
The history of the world came about when the Kingdom of God was divided and the kingdom of darkness emerged. Long ago, before time existed, there was only one kingdom where the Creator and the Maintainer thereof ruled as King of His Kingdom. There were a number of spiritual beings in this Kingdom: angels, cherubs, and others, who all had various responsibilities (little is told about this in the Bible).
The “leader” or forerunner of these spiritual beings, the one with the most authority and glory (Ez 28:13-14), was a mighty, awe-inspiring angel whose name was Morningstar. He obtained his name due to the amazing amount of light that he radiated. In the spiritual realm, light is always a characteristic or sign of the glory of God – God is light and there is no darkness in Him (1 John 1:5). This spiritual being was called “the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty” (Ez 28:12).
He was especially responsible for two aspects in the Kingdom of God. He had to bring all the spiritual beings before the throne of God in praise and worship. And he was also responsible for trade that occurred there (Ez 28:5 & 16).
But this Being became proud (Ez 28: 2, 5 & 17): “For you have said in your heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God…I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High” (Is 14:13-14). Through Satan’s own choice he sinned (Ez 28:16).
As Adam, you and I also chose what Satan has chosen (Rom 3:11-17). Therefore: “sin…deceived me, and by it killed me” (Rom 7:11).
- Sela: Think and pray about the above sentence along with Josh 24:22. What are the enormous consequences of this?
- Read: Gen 10: Ps 10; John 10.
- Memorise: John 10: 10 & 27.
