Day 109

“Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone …?” (Matt 7:9, NKJ)

The Scripture that we used yesterday as our basis, Gal 4:6, is of utmost importance for the next few teachings because it will establish perhaps the most fundamental practical aspect of your walk with God: “God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’”

Of all the possible names that God could have chosen for Himself as Creator of all things, the primary one He chose is: Abba. The God of the universe presents Himself to His creation as Father, actually rather: Daddy! That is why Mal 2:10 says that we all have the same Father.

You can only be a father if you have a child. The verse quoted the most times in the whole Bible (a total of six times!) is the one which is contextualised in Heb 1:5 in the following way: “For to [whom] did He ever say: ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You’? And again: ‘I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son’?”

Because all things exist through the Son (John 1:3; Eph 3:9), all things consist in Him (Col 1:17) and thus all things are defined in terms of this primary connection between Father and Son. Everything.

Therefore it is the most basic point of departure when we talk about those who are (re)born out of Him – we are made whole through the ancient connection of Father and son! And when you begin to see God through these glasses as Daddy, then Rom 8:32 becomes a wonderful reality and truth: “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” He has already given everything when He brought Jesus forth and gave Him to us (remember: all things were in Him). If He gives Jesus to us, Scripture says, will He not also give us anything! Sela.

To discover your position in Christ within this intimate relationship is perhaps one of the most important revelations that you might ever receive: You may dare to call Him Father! Thus: He has placed the Being of the Breath of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, in you through baptism with the Holy Spirit so that He can teach you to constantly call: Daddy! Daddy!

And tell me now: if you ask your Daddy for bread, will He give you a stone

  • Sela: There is a lot to think about here and wrestle through with God. Bring all your insecurities and misunderstandings about who He is in relation to you into line with the truth of who He is.
  • Read: Judg 19; Ps 109; Acts 19
  • Memorise: Acts 19:6
  • Going deeper: I have referred above to the incredible testimony of the Muslim lady Bilquis Sheikh who came to the revelation: I dared to call Him Father. Please read her book by the same name.
