“In the volume of the book it is written of Me …”
(Heb. 10:7, NKJV)
In the previous teaching we learnt that a covenant was cut in eternity, and that this covenant was mainly centred around the fulfilment of the general and overarching goal God has for all things (Eph. 1:10). That eternal covenant was cut before time, during a gathering or assembly, with this special agenda. That agenda spells out God’s plan in two main agenda points: the calling and purpose of the Son as Firstborn of all things, and the manifestation of the Body of Christ that flows from this. In Heb. 10:7 & 5 Jesus declares: “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come— in the volume of the book it is written of Me— to do Your will, O God’ … a body You have prepared for Me.” Here the two agenda points of the eternal covenant in the assembly before time is spelled out.
Jesus’s willingness to fulfil God’s agenda, at the cost of his own life, is clear from the Scripture in Heb. 5:8: “though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered”. And then the prophetic forecast of Isa. 53:10 makes a lot of sense in this light: “Yet it pleased the Lord [= God] to bruise Him [= Jesus]; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed …” It is about the restoration of all the prodigal sons who have left the home of the father, and finally, through much suffering, long for that home with many mansions (John 14:2). God went through this painful process of blood, pain and sweat to ensure that His sons will again return home. He made it possible for the sons who have fallen from eternity to find a way to return. That Way is through His Son, Jesus (John 14:6). There is alas no other Way than through Him. Thus God ensures that He will “see his seed,” or in the AMP: “He shall see His [spiritual] offspring”; or the TYN: “he shall see seed of long continuance”.
BUT there is a very important point that we need to keep in mind. Before this assembly took place, before the agenda was determined, before the decisions were made, before God’s perfect plan was presented, before Jesus agreed to act as Mediator, before this record – which would be known as the Book of Life of the Lamb (Rev. 13:8; 21:27), the scrolls of which Heb. 10:7 speaks – was approved, before Jesus was crucified before time (Rev. 13:8), before all of this there had to have been a cosmic cataclysm in the heavens, during which the sons of God fell from the heavens. What exactly happened?
In the teachings of Day 1166-1171 we extensively wrote about this fall from eternity, but the reason for it, even the status quo before the fall, is not yet properly unravelled. In the next teaching, we will try and come to an understanding of what the Word has to say about what actually happened before time.
- Selah: What do you think could have happened before time to cause the Bride of Christ to fall
from the heavens?
- Read: 1 Cor. 14-16
- Memorise: 1 Cor. 15:12-14 (very important for this teaching)
