“… rivers and … springs of water …”
(Rev. 8:10, NKJV)
Revelations 8:10-11 is concerned with the third trumpet sounding WITHIN YOU: “Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.” As the trumpets sound, there are particular spiritual principles and events that take place from the heavens or spiritual realm, occupying the realm of the earth and the earthly with power and violence (Matt. 11:12), here then the realm of the old (or first) earth (Rev. 21:1) or of the old man (Eph. 4:22). Just as the seven angels assumed a position before God with the seven trumpets (Rev. 8:2), in exactly the same deictic space, before his throne, exactly where the seven spirits of God are (Rev. 1:4; 4:5), before they were “sent out into all the earth” (Rev. 5:6), which is of course our earthly bodies! Remember – the heavens of God is now in our spirit. This is where God lives and from where He transforms and restores our bodies and souls. There are many things of a spiritual nature that occur on earth as the trumpets sound, but with the third trumpet a large star falls from the heavens: “And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.” (Rev. 8:10).
In Scripture, man’s spiritual life is often linked to a river or a stream – look at the following well-known examples:
- “And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life …” (Ps. 36:8-9)
- “Thoughits waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.” (Ps. 46:3-4)
- “Because I give waters in the wilderness andrivers in the desert, to give drink to My people, My chosen.” (Isa. 43:20)
- “… But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14)
- “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37-38)
- “And the Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, ‘Come!’ And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.” (Rev. 22:17).
All these verses point to the fact that God Himself flows from the believer like a river of life, to the hungry soil of the earth, and that the LIVING WATER (Gen. 26:19) brings to life that which was dead, according to the promise of Ezek. 47:9: “And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.”
- Selah: Do you believe that God can bring about within you that which Ezek. 47:9 promises
