“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Ps 11:3, MKJV)
The syncretism and contamination that takes places in faith systems or faith communities often occurs without the believers realising it. Often it does not necessarily take place through false prophets and teachers who bring in destructive heresies (2 Pet 2:1), but also through the “corruption of apostacy” (Darby).
A prime example of this is the role Freemasons play in the church. The Freemasons is a secret organisation, a brotherhood, aimed at supporting each other in business. It presents a humanitarian front and though front organisations is involved in many spheres of the community in which it functions. On the surface all appears good and commendable.
But alas this movement harbours “the depths of Satan” (Rev 2:24). We do not have the time to examine the demonic foundations on which the organisation is founded, but through rituals and covenants every member makes a contract with Baphomet, who is of course the Morningstar, Lucifer (Isa 14:12). It has an enormous host of implications, on all levels, for the descendants of those involved, even up to the fourth generation (Ex 34:7; Num 14:18; Deut 5:9).
But today we are focusing on how believers may be unwittingly involved in Freemasonry practices. In the spiritual realm the legal right is a fundamental principle, and it is found on God’s untouchable righteousness (Ps 48:10; 71:19; Isa 5:16) and our search for righteousness (Deut 16:20; Matt 6:33; 1 John 3:7) and our acceptance of Christ as our righteousness (1 Cor 1:30). If there exists any form of religious self-righteousness (Rom 10:13) it gives the enemy the right to lay claim to control through rituals and false covenants. For instance: The Freemason that form part of the church council will often ensure that other Freemasons are involved when new church buildings are erected. In this way all kinds of Masonry artefacts are placed in the foundation, accompanied by certain rituals. Thus a bewitchment (Gal 3:1) takes place. The Dutch Reformed Church I grew up in had Masonry symbols triumphantly displayed on the wooden frame of the book case, and also on the hymn display board. Does this bear any influence? It obviously does, mainly because the ground has been dedicated to Satan. We shan’t even discuss the other symbols of dedication, such as the cock on the steeple, which signifies renunciation (Matt 26:75). This brings about a spirit of confusion and deception in the church where these practices take place, and if these practices are not handled correctly, the church surely becomes a den of thieves (Isa 7:11). As Ps 11:3 rightly asks – what can the righteous do if their foundations have been dedicated to Satan?
