Day 223

“I declare concerning a statute: Jehovah said unto me, `My Son Thou art , I to-day have brought thee forth.”

(Ps 2:7, YLT)

God is. God is lonely. God wanted offspring.

From his Being he bore a Son, John 1:18 (KJV) explaining this complex concept – “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.”

The Scripture quoted at the top of the page is repeated no less than five times in the Word  (Ps 2:7; Acts 13:33; Heb 1:5; Heb 5:4). He is the only begotten Son of God.

Note the emphasis that is continually placed on the fact that God proclaimed this, authorised it as a statute, an unchangeable decision. The Being who introduced himself as I AM, wanted to manifest his most personal characteristic – Love, thus giving himself a name which left the possibility of alleviating His loneliness forever – He called himself a Father! (Is it not strange that ab is the first word in the Hebrew alphabet? It means Father.)

Christ was thus brought forth “according to the eternal purpose” (Eph 3:11) which God had had.

The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia explains it beautifully: “To reach the heart of the truth of the Divine Fatherhood it is necessary to begin …with the Godhead itself, in whose eternal depths is found the spring of that Fatherly love that reveals itself in time. It is first of all in relation to the eternal Son – before all time – that the meaning of Fatherhood in God is made clear.”

Within the eternity in which El Olam, the Eternal God, exists (Deut 32:40; 1 Tim 1:17), He brought Christ forth from within Himself, and through Him, Christ, the nature of eternity changed. Now eternity is no longer timelessness, but is redefined in John 17:3 – “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” Sela.

Now the eternal life is to know Him, the Father, and to have communion and relationship with Him. 1 John 5:20 explains it in exquisite terms – “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”
