Day 472

“For with God nothing will be impossible.”

(Luke 1:37, NKJV)

The problem with the spirit of fear is that we often try and counter it through mindlessly repeating Biblical passages encouraging us to be brave, like a scared man in a dark place trying to convince himself otherwise. It is, for instance, easy to memorise and repeat David’s proclamation in Ps 27:1-3. But once you’ve said it, the fear is often still an invisible glaring presence which threatens to overpower you.

In this teaching we want to discuss a few practical guidelines for getting rid of the spirit of fear. The background (=knowledge) which we discussed in the previous teaching, is firstly the context from which we should approach the matter.

Remember that fear overpowered humanity after the fall. When the Lord called to man after he had sinned, he answered, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” The covering which we had lost through Adam has left us feeling fearful, and at the mercy of the world’s cruelty. In Christ the believer has REGAINED that covering, although our soul dimension (especially our thoughts and emotions) are still programmed to fear. 1 John 4:18 states that “fear involves torment” – for this reason you need to make sure that you BELIEVE that God loves you, and therefore protects you. Make this your reality. Deal with your orphan-complex.

Man’s thoughts are capable of delivering phantoms that always appear worse than is really the case Through suggestions from the Kingdom of darkness you are actively participating in the cycle of fear in which you are attacked on a spiritual and emotional level. Draw the line! It is only possible once you give the Holy Spirit the opportunity to renew your mind (Rom 12:2), as He is the only one capable of destroying the yoke of fear (Isa 10:27). Repent of your fear as unbelief, and lack of love. Look away from your physical or potential circumstances, and keep your spiritual eyes on Him (Heb 12:2). Ask Him to release the love of God in you (Rom 5:5), thereby driving the spirit of fear away. Perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18).

To operate in this spiritual reality, it is important to remind yourself of what God had said to you in that particular situation – it is not only a blind faith in common truths, but His specific counsel concerning your situation. Believe Him, and it will be accounted to you as righteousness. Also profess what you believe. Rom 10:10-11 – “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Along with this it is of utmost importance that you praise God for your current situation – be grateful despite the bad circumstances. 1 Thess 5:18 makes it clear – “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Know for sure – “with God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:37).

  • Sela: Pray for someone who has the spirit of fearf and work your way through the process of delivering him/her from that fear.
  • Read: Judges 13-15
  • Examine how this has been fulfilled: Judges 13:18 (Tip: Isa 11:2)
