“Although my house is not so with God,yet He has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and secure. For this is all my salvation and all my desire; will He not make it increase?”(2 Sam. 23:5, NKJV)
We are currently discussing depression as a pathological condition. In the previous teaching we quoted from various sources that broadly distinguished between eight types of depression. Today we would like to offer a different approach and categorisation, especially within the context of the handling and healing thereof.
There are only two broad causes of depression: the first is medical in nature, specifically related to chemical imbalances in the brain, and the other is psychological factors.
It is always of utmost importance that the person who thinks that he/she may suffer from depression (and not just mere moods of despondency/dejectedness) get proper medical help for their illness. The danger is however that if the psychological reasons for the depression are not handled well, you are only dependant on the chemical medication, and on the long-term no healing will take place (Isa. 58:8). Already now my prayer for you is 3 John 1:2: “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
We should always remember that healing does not come from outside, but from our inner self. Healing is never a quick fix, but an intervention of deep-seated hurt that requires treatment, and will over time produce the fruit of healing. Healing needs to spring forth from your being. We need to consider that one of Jesus’ prophetic names is Branch (Zech. 3:8) and that He has a specific mandate concerning your body as temple (1 Cor. 6:19), in bringing you to a place of complete healing: “Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH! from His place He shall branch out, and He shall build the temple of the Lord” (Zech. 6:12). The verbs branch out and build both point to a particular ongoing process of continued contact, but especially that there will be a pertinent “increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end” will in time become manifest, and we know that “The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this” (Isa. 9:6).
The opening Scripture from 2 Sam. 32:5 speaks with great authority about this healing – take note of the words that are emphasised: “Yet He has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and secure. For this is all my salvation and all my desire; will He not make it increase?” With such grace from Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals (Ex. 15:26), you will certainly heal.
Before the Branch branches out within you, the foundation needs to be cleaned from all false perceptions, traditions and blatant lies about this illness. We’ll discuss this in the next couple of teachings.
