Day 12

“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8, NKJ)

Being born again is the process through which you become part of the Kingdom of God. Jesus explains it to Nicodemus in John 3:3, 5-7 in the following way: “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God … unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit…You must be born again”.

Perhaps the words “born again” are too limited to really appreciate the extent of this event. Any birth is the result of a fertilisation with seed. That which eventually makes rebirth possible, is that God fertilises or impregnates your spirit with His seed. Thus John explains it like this: Those who believe in His name were “born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:13). We are thus born again “not of corruptible seed but (His) incorruptible (seed)” (1 Pet 1:23).

Rebirth is thus a once-off process through which you obtain the DNA of God – His “Divine Natural Attributes”. You will thus be and look like your Father!

For this reason 1 John 3:9 says these awesome words: “Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.” Many people misunderstand this verse. We know that even after rebirth we are still inclined to trespass against God, but this has nothing to do with it. Sin (“hamartia” in Greek) means to miss your mark, your purpose, the reason for which you were created. When you are born again then God’s seed IN you makes you a new creation: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Cor 5:17). In 1 John 5:18 it is spelt out in this way: “We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.”
